Devon Dikeou
What's Love Got To Do With It
September 25 - October 2 1997
In her one-person show at Postmasters Gallery Devon Dikeou will exhibit quite a monumental project that represents her own history as an artist in the context of the art scene of the last seven years: a group of sixty panels, mimicking the gallery announcement boards so prevalent of the mall type gallery buildings of the late 80s and early 90s. These panels announce the details of all the gory shows that Devon Dikeou participated in since 1991 (the first show of her career) until September 1997 (the most recent show which is opening one day before this exhibition).
The artist observes: Taking on this phenomenological adhesive, that collates certain artists at certain times together in a form of participation that is both willing and supplicant, this piece is an attempt at bringing together the space that separates each artist, their work, the gallery, and eventually the collector of the very specific moment, and documenting it in the most natural and objective way
