Rachel Rossin, Scrubbing 1, Maquette, 2017. Virtual reality installation. Dimensions variable.

Join us for an evening with Rachel Rossin to experience her new, site-specific virtual reality installation, Scrubbing 1, Maquette, in conjunction with our summer exhibition, alt-facts.

Scrubbing 1, Maquette brings the explosive denouement of Zabriskie Point point into contemporary focus within the political context of the exhibition. VR enables the participant to enter a scene and become the narrative agent, setting off explosions or spinning these actions into reverse. Like Antonioni's cathartic explosives that blast away every pristine and empty promise of consumerism, there is a similar impulse in Rossin's work located in our current moment.

Combining virtual reality, rear projection, sound, and painting, the typically solitary VR experience is transformed into a fully immersive and engaging installation. Rossin is known for her uniquely multimodal practice, in which VR, painting, and sculpture augment one another.

Designed specifically for alt-facts at Postmasters, works from the same series have been exhibited at Kiasma in Helsinki and the Zabludowicz Collection in London.
